MARCEL THEODORE ANTHONY BOSCH

Tell us a little about your background... where are you from ?

Born 1963, in Zevenaar, a small town in the east of Holland near the German border. In 1986 I moved to the biggest port in the world, called Rotterdam and I am still living there. I came to Rotterdam to study photography at the Academy of Arts later called "Willem de Kooning Academy" After 4 years at the Academy, I started my traveling around the world and do this ever since. In 1992 I started to take private lessons for 5 years with photographer Ronald van den Heerik(Hollandse Hoogte).

How would you describe your photos for someone who's never seen them ?

The works could be described as having a narrative approach, to true or contrived histories, whether literal or poetic. My images are challenging, raw, provocative, sexually charged and romantic. Just as I am myself. I find inspiration in the world, in my immediate environment, and with my artistic friends. My photographs do not need a lot of words, just look and feel....

How do the public and the critics perceive your work ?

Most response to my work is positive, some say I have too much, but I don't think so. I see beauty in everything.

Have you got any standard or paragon in the world of photography ? If so, which are they ?

Some of the photographers that have inspired me are: Nan Goldin, Wolfgang Tilmans, Ed van der Elsken, .... etc., etc.

What's the strangest request you've had ?

So far, in my definition of strange, I have not had any strange request.

Do you have any new projects coming up that you can tell us about ?

Yes, I'll participate in the Primo Piano LivinGallery group-exhibition, "Genuis & Madness", Lecce, Italy in October 2006. You can also view my website as an on-going project.

What makes you happy ?

That moment of clicking the shutter, knowing that I've captured exactly what I wanted. My wife, Daphne Maria Bom, who's been my muse and model through the years and till death us do part.

Any final comments ?

To leave behind a trace of the world, as send by myself, for future generations.
